PROJEcT summary

Kokkedal is a divided town, marked by great differences between areas with socially disadvantaged public housing and wealthy neighbourhoods. In 2014, Fredensborg Municipality received support from Realdania, a private association that supports philanthropic architecture and planning projects, to a new, creative gathering meeting place, the City House, which is intended to bring the town together. The local authority and Realdania chose to hire Hauxner in order to qualify the concept and competition programme for City House. The job was about ensuring that City House becomes an attractive place for one and all – including the users who do not participate in traditional citizen meetings and who are not accustomed to being heard.

HAUXNER'S work

  • The inclusion process involved walking tours, interviews, focus groups for different service-user groups, workshops and events for the pupils at Kokkedal School.

  • The development of urban and user-strategic recommendations for the further development of City House, including a more detailed vision and set of values for City House and the model for operations, identity and the basis for the activities in the building.

The local residents have felt that their involvement in the development of City House was a good, comfortable experience. Drawing on her considerable expertise, her passion for the job and her confidence-inspiring personality, Katinka Hauxner managed to create a welcoming and constructive atmosphere in the dialogue with all kinds of different residents in Kokkedal.
