PROJEcT summary
Gellerup, a socially vulnerable and isolated residential area, is to be transformed into a multi-functional, attractive neighbourhood through radical, physical changes. In order to kick-start a positive development in the area, the City of Aarhus is building a new office building for almost 1000 employees in Gellerup Nord. In addition to office space, the building will house 1500 m2 of public services in the form of an entrepreneurial environment, a coffee roaster, a café, restaurant and a roof-top lounge with a view over Gellerup and Aarhus. Hauxner is part of the team that won the competition on the construction and operation of the office building. Hauxner is to direct the development of the public services over the next 5 years and to ensure that there is life in the building from Day One.
HAUXNER'S work
In the competition phase:
Providing urban strategic consultancy to the team – including consultancy on the challenges and potentials inherent to Gellerup.
Scenario-based development of the public services in the building.
Presentation of the project at the dialogue meetings with the City of Aarhus.
In the design phase:
Qualification of the public services: further development and qualification of concept, function, business and action plan and payment model, cooperative agreements, arranging and interior design of the space etc.
When the building is put to use:
Consultancy and quality control of the public services in connection with strategic intentions, the arrangement of the final organization regarding the operation of and assistance to the planning of the activities in the start-up period.
Evaluation and further development after 2 years: Survey of user satisfaction and a long-term plan for the public services.
